AN INTRODUCTION TO BANGLADESH BIBLE SOCIETY

Since 1953, Bangladesh Bible Society (BBS) has been successfully operating in Bangladesh in order to meet the needs of Bible in the churches of Bangladesh. After the liberation war of 1971, BBS started producing full Bibles/scriptures/New Testaments not only in Bangla language but also in different ethnic languages so that every Christian person can have his/her own Bible. Besides, we want to ensure that non-literate and blind people can also listen to the living Word of God through audio technology. We not only translate Bible but also want to make our distribution/sale meaningful; not just giving away the Bibles. That’s why we organize different kinds of programs with local churches, hostels and for people in different professions like – doctors/nurses media etc. We want to encourage adults, young people and children by the Word of God through these programs. Our desire is to build up our young generation as future good Christian leaders for our society. Bangladesh Bible Society is situated at 390, New Eskaton Road, Dhaka-1000, and Bangladesh. It is registered as an NGO with the NGO Affairs Bureau (FDR Reg. No. 54).

Hello, my name is Rod Bond, and I am a student at Liberty University in the United States. I am in Seminary (grad school; Christian masters’ program), and we have the assignment of writing a large paper on an unreached people group. I chose the Shaikh of Bangladesh, and ran across your website in my research. I see that you are doing great work in getting the Scriptures in the people’s hands. I was wondering if you could tell me in information about what kind of mission activity is/has taken place to the Shaikh, historically speaking. How long ago did missionaries first reach the Shaikh? Were they Western missionaries? Are missionaries indigenous now? Do any Westerners (if they ever did) work with this people group now?
This is our exact assignment: “consider the people group’s history and cultural background, to assess the history of mission work among them, and to analyze current mission strategies at work among them, and to develop a plan for reaching them with the Gospel.” Any help you could be would be appreciated. I will be honored to send the finished paper to you when I am done, if you would like.
